It's time for patients and physicians to make a conscious decision around a core issue in our healthcare system today: personal care versus population health. The notion that we should align our healthcare decisions based on what's in our own self-interest (patient-centered) versus what's best for the population as a whole (system-centered) is perhaps the most significant shift and in my opinion, challenge in U.S. healthcare today. Primary Care Practices: smaller is better!
"New research shows that small primary care practices have lower rates of preventable hospital admissions than larger practices." This may be due to better physician-patient relationships that contribute to small practices being able to keep patients healthy.
